Happy Friday Diet Bet Nation! I’ve had a healthy week, and I’m excited for STATurday tomorrow!
At the beginning of this Diet Bet, I promised myself that I would write a daily blog to keep myself accountable to this journey - and I missed yesterday! However, I think getting home late/ being too tired to write a blog because I was in a hip-hop workshop with Shaun T is an amazing excuse to missing yesterday!! I think I will allow it as an excused absence, just this once!
Shaun T was in Charlotte, NC last night to teach an Insanity and Hip-Hop Class - an hour away from where I live! By the time I found out about it, Insanity was already sold out, so I signed up for the advanced hip-hop class, even though it has been years since my last dance class. Of course, I knew the chances of not being able to keep up with the choreography were high, so I created a game plan to have a great time no matter what - once I lost track of the steps and choreography - I was just going to start shaking my ass and never stop dancing!
The class was amazing - everyone had an electric energy and was passionate about dancing. I was feeding off this energy during the warm up and stretch - and I was probably also in a shock to be in the same room as Shaun T! The choreography for the dance started off light with John Legend’s “All of Me.” The first few 8 counts, I was feeling pretty confident, and I felt that I could keep up with the class. It was a fleeting moment though, because the music changed to Jay Z’s “99 Problems” - and then I quickly fell behind. I tried to keep up, but as the dance moved forward, other steps were forgotten. I started to feel more out of my element as the class moved forward, and I moved to the very back of the class so I could keep out of the way of the serious dancers. Then I remembered my game plan - and started dancing as hard as I could, and shook my ass when I forgot the rest! I was in the back of the class - but I was having an amazing time!
About an hour into the workshop, the class paused for a water break. In a flash, Shaun T moved from talking to Scott to walking over to me. He asked, “how are you doing?” and held out his hand. All I could blurt out was, “amazing.” It was only a moment, but I will never forget it!
The class was unbelievable, and I still can’t believe that it happened. I still can’t believe that I chose to make it happen! The easier route would have been, “The Insanity Class is sold out… I guess I’ll never meet Shuan T.” But, I still made it happen even though I knew I was going to be completely out of my element! I still worked as hard as I could, and had an amazing workout.
Last night, I crossed off “meet Shaun T” from my bucket list. :)
