What's your absolute favorite healthy meal? Bonus points if you know the macros

I don’t count macros. My fav healthy meal is chicken fajitas over cauliflower rice, no tortillas.

First - it's Wednesday so that means there's another step challenge today! The goal today is your normal daily step goal, or past seven day average PLUS an extra 750 steps. Do that then remember to come back tomorrow to comment on the Challenge Check In post.

~~~
If you had a friend who was constantly putting you down and saying thinks like...
- You can't run.
- You'll never lose weight.
- Why do you even bother?
- You'll never finish that race.
- That outfit looks terrible on you.
- (You get the idea....)
...would you still be friends with that person? Now consider this: how often do you say similar things to yourself? Instead of building yourself up, do you often tear yourself down?
Make a habit out of saying negative things about yourself. And you'll start believing it. Example: I can't run a mile without stopping.
Instead of seeing that statement as a negative, shift it to a positive. Instead you could say: I was able to run more than half a mile without stopping!
See the difference? In the negative version, you're downplaying your accomplishment and focusing on what you CAN'T do. And in the positive version, you're building yourself up by talking about how far you were able to run without stopping. Big difference.
Positive thoughts will lead to a positive attitude. And with a positive attitude, you can be unstoppable.
Ways to combat that negative self talk:
- Practice keeping a Gratitude Journal. Each day write down something you are grateful for in your journal. Over time, you will begin to see the glass is half full rather than half empty.
- Avoid phrasing accomplishments with immediately putting yourself down - i.e. I "only" lost 3 lbs.
- When someone compliments you, ACCEPT IT! Simply say, "Thank you!" instead of following it up with a negative reply - i.e. "I still have a lot more to lose."
How do you combat negative self talk?
It's so hard to overcome that negativity in our own minds! I am my own worst enemy. I try really hard to say something positive about myself outloud after I say something nasty to myself in my head.
WayBetterJen
Tiffany, I know. I think we all are guilty of this on some level. We need to treat ourselves just as we treat someone whom we love. It’s a work in progress always and requires daily practice.
So we're all here to change that body, but what are we doing to solidify the changes in our minds? I'm trying to change that negative mental soundtrack in my mind that tells me I'm not good enough, to one of gratitude. What are you focused on?
What a great post, Tiffany. I'll leverage your thought here as today's post. I have one that I've written before that I think is very applicable to your comment.
I always tell myself I can’t control what’s happening around me I can only control how I react to it! It gets me through. Helps we stay positive! :heart:
When trying to lose weight, what do you struggle with the most?
Katherine - I struggled with that one when my daughter was younger. It was there so why not eat it? The only advice I can share is if you make a habit out of tracking EVERYTHING you may be less inclined to eat something that you don't want to track. And yes to maintaining! S-T-R-U-G-G-L-E!
Jennifer - I have a strong sweet tooth, too. Have you ever checked out some of the dessert recipes on Skinnytaste? You may be able to find something that satisfies you, but with fewer calories.
Tiffany - I certainly have a tendency to eat like a jerk, too. The thing is I know I feel better when I eat better. So why not always eat better? UGH!
Valerie - yes to old habits. Being committed is something that requires daily practice.
Lorraine
Staying on track with my nutrition plan. I have a super tight budget so utilize a weekly farmer's market box co-op. It's all really good food, but never know what I'm getting until it shows up, and often a lot of what I "shouldn't" eat according to my nutrition plan.
Just a reminder to be sure to check your email if you comment on the Check In post. The first winner did not reply by the deadline. And I wasn't able to draw another winner until Sunday morning.
I wanted to pass along this article about why protein is important in your food plan.
1. Protein can reduce appetite and hunger levels.
2. Protein can increase muscle mass and strength
3. Protein is good for your bones.
4. Protein can reduce cravings and desire for late night snacking.
5. Protein can boost metabolism and increase fat burning.
6. Protein can lower your blood pressure.
7. Protein can help you lose weight and keep it off long term.
8. Protein does not harm healthy kidneys.
9. Protein can help your body repair itself after injury.
10. Protein can help you keep fit as you get older.
What are some of your favorite high protein snacks, or meals?
I love Fairlife protein shakes for an in between snack. 150 calories and 20 grams of protein is a big win for me.
