Think about what you want to accomplish this month, and then comment below 3 goals you have for yourself during this DietBet.

Happy Monday! Who’s ready to get this game started? Let’s start with an introduction to get to know each other. Comment below:

1. Where you’re from
2. Your occupation
3. A fun fact about yourself

I’ll start! I’m Talia & I’m from Southern California but moved to Atlanta 6 months ago. I’m a graduate student and 5th grade student teacher, and run my healthy food Instagram for fun (@taliasplate). One fun fact is that I have broken my wrist 4 times! (I was very clumsy growing up 😂). So glad to have you all in this bet with me!

I’m Terrilyn from central CA! I’m a speech language pathologist in the schools and soon to be in the medical setting as well! Fun fact: I grew up rodeoing and made the high school national finals in the breakaway roping.

I’m Lizzie from South Carolina but just moved to DC a few months ago. I work in politics and my fun fact is that I’m currently planning my first vacay since corona to the carribean.

  • Week 8, Day 1. You'd think workouts the day after a carb binge would be easy. No such luck! I need these anaerobic workouts to burn off glycogen consumed during my once weekly carb cycling.

When on a "normal" Standard American Diet (SAD), a sustained caloric deficit usually results in catabolism of muscle. If the caloric deficit is sustained for some period of time, the body converts stored fat to ketones which are burned as energy. Fat is the "back-up" plan when glycogen and protein are scarce. The body has no "back-up" plan for when the fat runs out so the leptin and ghrelin levels drop slowing the rate at which we burn fat. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/leptin-101#how-it-works While carb cycling frequencies vary, I prefer a once weekly (but always no more frequently than every 5 days) 6-8 hour carb binge to trick my body into thinking the "crisis" is over and to reset my ghrelin and leptin hormones. There's some weight gain due to retention of water associated with carb intake but after 3-5 days, I'm back to my pre-carb cycle weight with the next 2-4 days resulting in an additional weight loss of 2-4 lbs a week. The once weekly cycle can be difficult for those who REALLY like their carbs but it breaks up my week and gives me 1 night to eat some of my favorite carb rich foods I miss while on keto!

After having a bunch of carbs or sugar I'm always suuuuper sluggish! Great job burning it off and pushing through!

02/22/2021 8:10AM in BET BIG IN JANUARY - 2X WINNINGS!

We had 74 winners out of 96 players! Together, we lost a total of 827.3 pounds! Way to go! The win rate in this game was one of the highest that happens each year, which means that the game payouts were pretty low. Sorry for the disappointment in the payouts but it also means that more than 3/4ths of players lost 4% of their weight in 4 weeks, which is pretty awesome.

I wish you continued success in your weight loss journey and hope to see you in future games until you hit your goal!

My first and last game here.. The way I understand it, there were no payouts? If you didn’t hit 4%, you lost $105. If you hit 4%, you lost $1.22.. When I look at profiles and where it displays aggregate winnings, I’m assuming it’s totally deceptive? My membership ‘winnings’ would reflect $103.78, yet I was really in the red. Don’t get me wrong.. it’s a good motivator and great for those lacking socialism, but very deceptive.

Thank you! Email sent.

Finished another run and did a chest/triceps workout. Today I had a choice. I was finishing my coffee when a friend called for help moving something. I could have just said that was a workout, and just skip my workout but instead I threw on my clothes and pushed out a great workout quickly before I left. Mindsets can change. I will prioritize myself through my journey. For the past few years I have put my physical and mental health on the back burner but it's time to change that. Working out and eating good makes me mentally and physically feel good. Do I miss all the delicious unhealthy quick foods? Absolutely. But there is a time and place for that. The time and place isn't all day every day, but once in a while.

Great balance Alexandra!
When we put ourselves first, we are so much better in the long run to everyone else too!

Maddie

Well done! I'm trying to prioritise myself this year too, although work always seems to take over.

A bit of a milestone for me today, did my first workout since 3rd January because of health issues, but I feel like I’m getting stronger and ready to move a bit more. So far I’ve been focused on food and getting in daily steps, but after today’s 25 min pilates low Intensity workout, I feel like I may be back on track with things. Let’s hope I don’t push my body too far, I’ll definitely take it slow. 🙏

Great for you!!

How did you end up feeling the next day? My daily goals are 15,000 steps, gradually increasing my running time, and drinking 2.75 litres of water.

So I just updated my weight. I thought I had to get to a number that was 2.3lbs lighter than what I actually have to hit. I still want to hit that other number, but knowing the dietbet goal isn't so far away makes it seem much more feasible. Woo hoo!
