Ah, well ... you know how it is. It's a dedication borne of multiple prior attempts that made me learn what it really took to do it successfully. Nothing comes out of vacuum, right? Now I know everything I need to know, and I have the time I need to have to do it, and the HUBBY is finally on board and not unintentionally sabotaging my efforts, and I have DietBet to give me the competitive element I thrive on ... everything's falling into place, at last. I guess that's why I'm so tuned in to everyone ELSE who's figuring it out, as well! Glad to hear that you're getting back into your running -- it really DOES make SO much of a difference having that nice weather returning, bit-by-bit, doesn't it?

Liz

That's great that your husband is supporting you. I know how frustrating it can be when family members unintentionally hinder your efforts.

I'm glad to be running again as well. It's going to get cold again in a few days, so I'm adding on some extra miles. ^^

Hey, it's still in that nice, lovely-to-see downward direction ... I LOVE when that happens, no matter how big or small the number! :)

Liz

Haha, me too! That's why I don't record my weight if it goes up dramatically, since it's water weight anyway. I like it when my graph is nice and neat, but the weekly weigh ins are ruining it! LOL. I blame it on TOM and carbs. :P

COHikerGirl

Its the carbs, DEFINITELY the carbs! ;D I've decided fat (in foods) is my friend. SOOOOO satisfying, it makes it possible to eat less and still feel content. ;) So yeah, ITS THE CARBS!!!! (better be ...) lol

Thanks for checking up on me! I haven't been checking DB as often as I should lately. I'm actually at 60% now, but I'm not too worried. I forgot today was weigh in, so I had my breakfast before weigh in. -.-

And oh yes, definitely. I only make sustainable changes because I know anything other than that will make me feel discouraged or worn out. Before this, I was sedentary; some days I'd literally just sit in a chair all day. I also ate unhealthily. I also had the tendency to over eat during my meals. And as an emotional eater, snacking was how I dealt with the stress I was experiencing.

Now, I try to eat as little processed foods as possible and exercise regularly. If I can't exercise, I make it a point to walk more or stay on my feet during the day. So I did make drastic changes, but only because my "before" was pretty bad to begin with.

Sometimes I do slip up, but I try not to let it get to me. ^^

Wow, I really do relate to so much of that. In my case, it was my yoga friends who got me turned around 'eating clean' earlier in summer, and a three-week vacation with them got me started down the weight-loss road without really trying. Which taught me something. What you describe for yourself sounds really like a solid change ... the REAL kind of change that'll get you there, for real. None of that yo-yo kind of behavior. Just smart choices and standing up to take action, as you have. And letting yourself be human but not letting that stop you, either. I really respect that.

Thank you! For me the real battle begins now. I've always been able to drop #s fairly easily, but it's always been hard for me to maintain the loss. I'm so tired of yo-yo-ing - I definitely WILL NOT be doing that again. I've made some pretty big lifestyle changes this time around with clean eating and exercise (never really did this before) - so let's hope this is my last "diet."

I can already feel myself slacking a bit more, but I have to remember not to settle for good enough. That's the main reason why I joined the Transformer bet: for long-term accountability.

Hoping to leave this bet with some good, healthy habits. :)

Yeppers, you have got EXACTLY the right idea this time, sounds like to me. That whole thing about being a change in how you simply go about everyday life, rather than making a temporary modification, is the key to the whole thing. If you do this now, and really stick with those lifestyle changes, you won't have a problem for the rest of your LIFE. Sweet. You're so much smarter to learn that stuff now, so you can enjoy the benefits for a lifetime and avoid getting into a bad place that's harder to recover from, later. And I SO hear you on the long-term accountability. I wanted that, as well. Too often I drop one chunk of weight, only to over time slowly let it creep back on. Not THIS time!

hii, I just stumbled upon your profile and noticed we have the same starting and goal weight. May I ask how tall you are? :)

Liz

Hi Melissa! I'm 5'2.5" with a small frame (had to include the half inch, haha). Looks like you're new to Dietbet. I'll be rooting you on girl! :)

OK!!! It's AFTER CHRISTMAS!!! We can now FOCUS ON OURSELVES AND DO WHAT WE NEED TO DO (dammit). Yep, I'm re-committing and re-focusing and returning to healthy ways after indulging a little too much for Christmas. It's time to turn that page ... HELP ME DO IT. I need a little encouragement, today ...

That's good to hear! :D I'm glad you were able to find extra motivation through a work out buddy. Only a few more days to go!

COHikerGirl

Yep! I've dropped by caloric intake goal, stepped up the exercise, and hope to reach my own goal of 185 lbs by then ... it'll be tough to do, but there's hope!

Hey, @Liz, GOOD FOR YOU in a BIG way for climbing back on that wagon. That kind of turnaround demonstrates *exactly* the kind of self-policing and determination it takes to make this STICK. Hang in there, and I'm rooting for you, girl!
