22 lbs down since Jan 1, I recent bought a road bike which has been making weight loss super fun. I strongly encourage anyone to get a road bike that is interested in making weight loss enjoyable.

I’ve also signed up for a sprint triathlon in a couple months which has helped me work more on my fitness rather than losing a # of lbs. subsequently, the better my fitness the easier it’s been to lose weight because I can swim, bike, and run further.

Finally, I’ve found setting goals and making a game out of my journey has helped. The first mile I ran was 9:17 but I set a goal to get under 8:00. Just a couple days ago I hit 7:49 for my mile. Without having a goal to get my mile to under a certain number, I do not think I would have pushed myself as hard.

The road bike, signing up for the triathlon, and fitness related goals have been real game changers in making this journey fun and exciting. If you’re struggling maybe these suggestions could help.

I did a mini triathlon a year ago, I bike a lot but overall overweight so was nervous. Sometimes I'm still surprised I did it! I'll root for you!

That’s exactly how I started, this year I signed up for an Olympic distance in July super nervous as pools are still shut and I’m the worst runner ever but it’s definitely motivating !

  • First semi warm day in long while, had my work shift switched, but kept my 5am alarm and went for a run (well more of a walk but I'm trying) instead.

  • Round 2! I'm still stuck at 75kg but im not giving up. I'm on Day 4 of Breathe by Yoga with Adrienne. Downward dog is getting easier, amazingly! I'm riding my recumbent exercise bike daily and did 15 minutes today. I ran twice on the weekend and I'm aiming for 3x this one. I had one naughty food day but otherwise keeping under 1500 calories and keeping my food choices low carb high protein. I really hope my efforts pay off because this plateau sucks!

I love Yoga with Adrienne! I just started in January and couldn’t do downward dog at all. But like you, I’m getting better at it every time I try. Way to go!

    Whether you made your goal this time or not - and you're still in it to win it even if you were shy of your goal this round! - just know that you should be so proud of any progress and, most importantly, making this commitment to your long-term health!

I usually do the same but oy so many more people to verify probably take longer than usual. I was going to weigh in when I got home from work but ended up taking my cat to the vet right away so now I'm waiting and starving.

I got verification almost right after I posted, but it did take about 6 hours from the time I submitted. A little longer than normal, but we’ve got a big group just in this game. Lol

I wanted to post a photo at my lightest weight as an inspiration, but realized that it's an unrealistic goal go get back to my size at younger age. Instead, im going to stay in the present and see what new amazing self I can create this year. It'll be a crazy busy year, but if I stay focused, I'll achieve my goals!

I have those same photos (of myself:yum:) and it's really hard not to pine for my pre-pregnancy, 12yrs ago body that I thought was overweight at the time! But I'm trying to look forward rather than backward, and be excited to see what my body will look like now, once I've shed the unhealthy weight I've been carrying around these last 6 years.

  • I’m going to guess a lot of us struggle with getting enough sleep. In our culture of go, go, go (even when we can't really "go" anywhere) and with so many distractions, it can be very hard to turn it off. 

    Studies show that poor sleep is one of the strongest risk factors for obesity, as it’s linked to an 89% increased risk of obesity in children and 55% in adults. In fact, sleep loss can release a hormone that will make you feel hungry when you’re not. Sleep loss also increases fat storage. 

    Losing weight can help you get better sleep because it can help with sleep apnea, how comfortable you feel, and insomnia that can come from depression related to your weight.

This week have had trouble falling asleep but my kiddo has been letting me sleep past 9 a.m. so can't complain too much.

I feel I get a decent amount, but I wake up in the middle of the night and am awake for about an hour. It is frustrating.
