Good morning! My name is Billy and I am new here. About to join my first game and planning on losing 100 lbs this year. Is this group still active?

1 Timothy 4:7-8 "But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come."
This was such a good reminder to me! There are so many healthy eating plans out there and people often consider "theirs" the best. I've learned that God made us unique individuals (imagine that!) and we all will find what works for us. The main goal, as Susie stated, is godliness, which is profitable for now and things to come!

Love this. Never thought trying to lose weight would bring me so much closer to my Savior.

  • God's reminder to me yesterday that HE is my first love, my deepest desire, my everything - and not to make my FitBit or weightloss my idol.
Praise God for His Mercy & Grace!

Thanks to God's grace and mercy, there's 10% less of me around! Graduating to the "maintainer"...

Using the Daniel Fast method really brought God into the solution and thanks to discernment from Susie and others here, made this a spiritual journey with a diet component.

I was keenly aware of many of my sins (I was present when they were committed), but realized there were many more that I was committing and not even fully cognizant of them - the Spirit illuminated accumulated detritus and caked on filth. In addition to all the other forms of obtuseness that come to me naturally, even in my Spiritual obtuseness the epiphany finally came to me: my sin is great, but His love is greater.

I no longer needed that (insert favorite food here or even something only marginally tasty but close by) to fill me up. Sounds corny, but there you have it. Get the relationship and glory to God right and everything else works.

Thanks everyone for your help, accountability and community.

From a fellow child

Amen! Congrats on your loss but more so on your deeper relationship.

I hope you might find this as powerful as I did.
I broke my fitbit band this week - fitbit is sending me a new band free! In the meantime, I have my fitbit tucked into a hairband on my wrist. I took it off charger this morning and got ready for church and LOST it. Looked a little bit, but left without it. Got home, still can't find it. So I prayed. AND BOY.... God convicted me big time. He told me I rely more on my fitbit than I do Him. Ouch. No, I am faithful, I do my morning devotion and prayer time, I talk to Him all day, I serve... Well God told me that I look at the fitbit more than my Bible. Ouch. Guess God wants more of me. Talk about Total Conviction. So, I'm spending more time with God. Oh, and God showed me grace – I found my FitBit - in the shirt I changed out of this morning, my God is so Good and Merciful to me.
That's one thing i never expected to learn in this weightloss journey, my skewed priorities. I am grateful he loves me enough to teach me that. This is a spiritual journey, and not just a health journey. If I am to be a living temple of the Holy God, I must stop treating this temple as a garbage dump. I think God is honoring my desire to not only do it for my health, but to glorify Him - since that is my true purpose and calling. I need to be praising Him every moment of the day, every step, every lift, every bite.
Have a Blessed Week!

It is absolutely a spiritual journey! I'm thankful God continues to work on me and won't let me stay stagnant! No perfection until heaven but we strive everyday for that high calling! Thanks for sharing!

Happy Sunday! Hope everybody weekend is going well! I just got home from sledding with the family :)

We used to go sledding all the time when we were raising our 4 children. Now they are grown and we live in the south - no "sleddable" snow here. :)

Checking in! How is everyone doing? I won round 1 and I finished my kickstarter, as well. Now I'm just in the Transformer and doing well, so far! I thought I would share a website. I have done Barb Raveling's Freedom from Emotional Eating Bible study (and doing it again!) and she has a podcast and lots of good articles her site:

CONGRATULATIONS! That's wonderful you won and are sticking around for the long haul.

The best gift one can give is one's self.

Relying on God's UNLIMITED strength instead of relying on my own paltry strength has always been a sure thing. The more full of His love, the more full of those waters which never run dry and the emptier I am of me - the more I can serve the others who were made with just as much love as we all were made.

Sandy B.

AMEN, Kanji! And we can love them to Jesus. One of the reasons I want to get healthy is to be a better testimony. By His grace!

Been thinking a lot about this... And ours is a faith based on empirical evidence, not some kind of mystical superstition. Each of us is here because we have received our daily bread - and lots more. We have been blessed to afford computers, phones, and electricity to run the whole mess.
I feel like i traded in a golden calf for some silicon wafers. And of course the broader point is instead of choosing God, the creator, I've chosen silicon-laden, gold-coated, sugar-filled creations. Instead of choosing my Savior, I've chosen cash. Instead of choosing to hear the Sanctifying Holy Spirit, I've listened for the crowd's approval.

My faith was misplaced. And I failed often.

As long as I repent, believe and have faith at least one more time than I fail, it is all by God's grace and to His glory.

On the theme of prayer: This week, I dedicated some seriously hard work outs to family, friends, strangers - even the modern day tax collectors and Pharisees (I often feel I'm in this category).

You guys ever run and pray? Sometimes I don’t bring music and I pray, take in God’s beauty and thank God for everything along the way!
Good morning!

I used to walk and pray everyday when we lived up north - it was my favorite time! Where we live now we have too many loose dogs so I walk inside. I miss it, though!

Val S.

I turn off my radio and pray on my way to work too! I started when we had a junky car that the radio didn’t work so I used to sing and pray then we got a new car and I missed it so I started turning off radio! Who knew a car that I SO didn’t like would be such a blessing to me :)

And yes be careful of those dogs! I can’t wait till weather warms up to enjoy walking outside (live in northern Illinois! Brrr!)
