Hello, fellow dietbetters!  Happy Friday!  How are you holding up?

I am in Washington, DC for a conference for work.  I love the topics that we are discussing (it's a conference for medical educators and this is my favorite part of my job by far), but I am a little nervous about being away from home so soon after starting this thing.

  • I don't have the same level of control here.  I can't prepare food and I don't have my workout DVDs
  • I am STRESSED OUT because I am leading a workshop and lately, just speaking in fromt of a few people gets my heart rate up... (does that count as cardio?)
  • My source of support had to stay home (even though he really wanted to come).
  • Social functions = food.

I have a couple of plans that may help...

  • Walking, walking, walking.... I logged almost 18K steps. I walked to our team dinner which was 3 miles from our hotel (bonus - I saw The White House for the first time).
  • I brought protein shakes from home.  I will do those for any meal/snack that I don't particularly like or think is worth it...  Come to think of it.  I should maybe have had one before our dinner last night so I would have become fuller quicker.
  • Trying to make a conscious effort to eat slowly so I can tell when I am full before I overdo it.
  • I do have other support here... I have a network of work friends and I am going to try and see friends from HS and college.
  • Remember, it's only 3 days... I have a lot of time to make up whatever mistakes I may make.

I did weigh pre-DC -- I was down 2 lbs - that made me happy :)  Hopefully that success will keep me trying.  But this weekend, it's all about the NSV (non-scale victory)
