Oyyyy....it's a good thing to have parties with friends and family.  That's what life is about - connecting with those we love.  Still, I struggle with willpower on regular days, and much more so when there are delicious appetizers and yummy treats.  My strategy this weekend has been to enjoy the ceviche and the strawberries more than the lambsicles and the minicupcakes!

I have learned through the years that as soon as I start saying I have to be perfect, then I give myself an excuse to "throw in the towel" as soon as I cheat a bit on my healthy eating regime.  So, this time I am trying to change my mindset to allow for the birthday cake and the glass of wine.  After all, I want this to be a lifetime change, so it needs to be something that I can continue to do.  And, despite my intentions to nourish my body with healthy food and exercise, I also want to nourish my soul and to enjoy my friends and family.  My son and his girlfriend spent 3 hours yesterday making exquisite pineapple cakes for a party today. There is no way that I am going to tell them that I won't taste their labor of love!

So, I'll eat the pineapple cake, and I'll make a point to to chat with the rest of the family and friends today, then I'll take an extra long evening walk (with my husband).  It's all about balance!
