So I finished the Jingle Bell 5K today but not with the results I had hoped to get but it was expected.  I had posted a few days ago that I had injured my knee playing softball.  Being a dumb guy, I decided to do the 5K anyway and my knee actually felt somewhat OK this morning to my surprise.  There were at least 5 thousand runners and it was a beautiful day and perfect temp for running.  Within the first 3 minutes, things started going downhill.  I use Runkeeper to tell me my pace so I can adjust accordingly.  My headphones started cutting in and out so couldn't listen to anything anymore.  With the number of runners, I was weaving around a bunch of them because there were many walkers who should've been in the back of the pack for the start or overestimated their conditioning.  I was doing OK for the first 1.25 to 1.5 miles but then my knee started hurting again and having a hard time breathing.  I guess all the weaving and not being able to hear my pace messed me up.  Unlike the second 5K I did with a bad back and willing myself to continue, I could not will myself this time.  Ended up walking the rest of the course and jogged when I could whenever the knee felt a little better.

I ended up finishing the race with a time of 37:08 and a pace of 11:57.  This is a far cry from 2 weeks ago when I had a time of 31:45 and a pace of 10:14 which was a personal record.  If I had not injured my knee, I wanted to attempt to get a sub 10 minute pace or at least get a new PR to end the year on a high note.

Anyway, still had fun as there were a lot of fun characters running colorful holiday themed clothing.  Already of thinking about joining again next year to redeem myself.

Now I just have to heal up and get ready for spring running.  Maybe I'll even start training for a 10K.
