I've been doing some reading. A 5k would consist of 30-40 min in a weekly session while a 10k would require at least 60-90 min. I'm starting with a 5k which I've already completed a few times until I can consistently run 3-4 miles during my sessions without much discomfort before I start the 10k.

Weak is relative. If you have muscle groups which are stronger than their opposing groups you won't have balance. For example, weak thigh muscles compared to weak hip muscles. As the weaker group gets fatigued the knee (or any other joint for that matter) is pulled in the opposite direction more which can cause issues.Equal time to stretch muscles is important for the same reason. For example, a lot of people stretch quads but not hamstrings. As the hammies get all knotted they shrink a bit causing a bigger pull which in turn can cause lower back pain.Knees can ache for many reasons because they are complicated joints the pain can be:1) Ligament soreness2) Tendon soreness3) Fluid Buildup4) Cartilage damage5) Muscle imbalanceand those are just off the top of my head.

Thank you. Just seems like since I started running again the aches are shifting place to place for a couple days first my knees, then shin splints, and hip upper thigh area. I will focus more on stretching and work in muscle strengthening routine.
