I know some people wanted to hear about how my no dairy/sugar/gluten/caffeine/alcohol diet went, and today is day 20/40 so I thought I would update.

Caffeine, which I thought would be the worst, is surprisingly fine. I found flavored decaf coffee (Maud’s) on Amazon that isn’t sweetened but is still reminiscent of the flavors somehow (Cinnamon Roll, French Toast, etc.) I thought I would get headaches but I adjusted amazingly quickly (like within two days) and I was a 3+ cup a day caffeinated coffee drinker before this.

Dairy has been fine. I had to cut dairy and soy while breastfeeding so it’s something I got used to and I know how to get around it (though this is more restrictive.)

Gluten has also been fine. I switched to gluten free bread for lunch, and subbed a couple other specific gluten free things in meals (made meatballs the other night and used gluten free breadcrumbs) but the lunch bread was the only gluten I was consistently eating so not terrible.

Sugar has been pretty good-the gluten free bread has 2g/slice so I’m not COMPLETELY sugar free, but close. Still eating fruit but no refined sugars except the bread, no honey, etc.

I didn’t really drink before this anyway so no change for the alcohol.

I also challenged myself to 80 running miles in 40 days, 60 push ups (3 sets 20) and a 3 min plank.

  • Met my round 4 goal this morning...hoping to meet round 5 by the end of this month, would be pretty awesome.

My arms are killing me...it’s been really windy here the last few days, I’ve been running with the stroller (pushing a parachute, basically) and doing a waybetter push up challenge. So ready for my running rest day on Friday!

That is strange

Meenakshi L.

Oh....I think it's because I was almost out of game at one point of time due to non payment of fee for round two as my credit card was having some issues...yeah...so they must have added the points to my account as a goodbye

Hi everyone! Haven’t posted much but kind of stressed about what to do with my weight loss strategy at this point so could use some advice. Since my husband and I have been and will be working from home indefinitely and my daughters school also decided to do remote learning indefinitely I made the decision to take some vacation and work from Aruba for a month. It was my husband and I 5th wedding anniversary and we have a tradition to go on vacation to celebrate every year and have some alone time so we were only going to Aruba for a week but then I realized we could rent a house in Aruba for a month for the same price stay by ourselves for a week and have my daughter come after the week with family so that’s how that decision came out...anyway so it sounded like a great idea but now after all this had d work losing almost 100 pounds in about a year and a half for the first time i don’t have a plan and I’ve tried to get workouts in here and there and eat a bit healthier but it’s so hard when you’re in another country on what seems like permanent vacation though we are working a bit...anyway any weight loss advice or at least weight maintenance while on a long term stay away from home?

Every year when my family goes to FL for Christmas our routine is all over the place but we start each day with a morning walk on the beach ranging from 30 mins to 2 hrs depending what we have time for. While we like to eat out and snack we also buy fruit and veggie trays to make snacking healthier.

Not sure if you are cooking your meals or going out a lot. However, if you are going out a lot to celebrate, maybe you should consider hiring a culinary student to cook low-calories meals. You will still fell like you are on vacation because you won't have to cook, and it will be a lot cheaper than eating out. If you tell them you have dietary issues requiring a lean diet, they will be sure to stick to meals you can comfortably eat. Similarly, when I go on a cruise, after a few days of indulging, I treat the cruise as my opportunity to have a personal chef cook me low-calorie meals since they will make items to your specification if you ask. On the exercise front, use the new loction to provide a different exercise feel. Go to the beach and take long walks. A new environment ay give you a jolt of energy.

Well this morning I was up 3 lbs with the bloat from surgery yesterday. I'm hoping that it just drops off quick as it came on lol. I'm quite miserable with pain still though. #GallBladderRemoval

Since we can have water retention / inflammation from just working out, I would think you'll have it from surgery for a few days or more too. Just focus on healing. I hope you're feeling better soon :heartbeat:

Finally got my Gallbladder removed today, after having "attacks" of gallstones/bile since LAST November. I haven't been exercising much lately cuz I had fallen off track anyways but let's see how this affects eating/moving around the next few days. Here's to recovery and hopefully getting back on track after.

Omg, my mom had that and the attacks were so painful! Focus on healing and taking care of your body and you'll also lose weight.

Speedy recovery!

Urgh I work at a university and this is the first week of term, so I stress ate loads of sugar yesterday and undid my week of intermittent fasting 😭 Meal prepped for the next few days to try and stop me doing it again - thank god there’s 20 days till the next weigh in!

You won the battle - although yesterday was a minor setback you prevailed by meal prepping. Impressive! I actually find that having some sugar every so often helps my body.

Starlight

Meal prep is great. Do stress prep too! What will you do when stress *inevitably* shows up again?

  • Had our porch pictures taken yesterday (kids not pictured) and though I thought I would look better than I did I’m glad that I’m almost 14 lbs less than I was starting this DietBet. Having more pictures taken Saturday (because I’m a sucker, and two photographers got back to me who I didn’t want to say no to! But for both photo sessions including photo release only $175, so I’m okay with it!) and maybe I’ll be at that 15 lb loss mark by then!

  • Had to weigh in today for another DietBet I am in so I ran all six days of my vacation on Florida last week, slower than I’d like but I got it done, wasn’t fun at the time, but I don’t regret it now—gonna get ahead on my round 3 goal.

Great job! I don’t know where you’re from but FL is a bear to run in. When I first started running I lived in south FL, and when I moved to VA a couple years later I thought I had to continue the snail’s pace (I never put it together that the heat makes it more difficult since it’s always hot there.) Slow there translates to much faster in most other places hah

Ruth H.

Yes! I live in IN, thought I was keeping my pace, but was always over 10 min miles in FL when I’ve been about 9:40 for my usual runs lately. Hopefully back to normal if I get a run in tomorrow.
