I'm grateful for the motivation this DietBet provided. I got myself back on track because of it and am 13.2 pounds lighter than I was 4 weeks ago. That's the grand prize! And $4 is $4 I didn't have before. Congratulations to all the winners - that's everyone who played. Everyone working to be healthier is a winner!

I can't believe I come on here to congratulate everyone and only find a bunch of sad people complaining.

Can you guys understand that you made 12.8% on your money!!! Just by comparison, had you invested that $35 in the following stocks, you would've made less last month:

Facebook - you'd now have $39.00
Google - you'd return $37.07
Twitter - you'd have $37.10
Apple - you'd have lost money and only have $34.44

And the list goes on and on. So, you made only a little bit of money, but a 12.8% return on investment PLUS you lost at LEAST 4% of your body weight! WIN WIN!

You're totally right! Oops! Thanks for posting Scott!!!

I've never in my several dozen DietBets seen so many people crying about winning! I've seen bets where EVERYBODY won, so nobody got more $$ back than their initial investment. But if you're not happy about losing weight, then feel free to eat yourself into oblivion and gain it all back! Seriously! I didn't win, so I hope you all enjoy the penny I contributed to each of you! Cheers!

Its the first month of the year...of course people were more motivated. I’m excited I got my money back! I was in another DietBet with a pot of $410 and I won $78.75. I was ecstatic! Then won this one too-got my money back plus a few bucks...I consider that a win!

Also important...the return on investment (ROI) for this game was over 14%. You can't make that at the bank.

I know someone mentioned HealthyWage, but you're far better off doing a long term DietBet...I did my research before committing to this and the average ROI from HealthyWage is 11%. This was my first DietBet but I'm guessing because this is January, the payouts were lower than average...but still better than HealthyWage, and no long term high-stakes commitment.

From yours truly, a math, engineering, and business nerd who thinks numbers are fun:

$4.94 in profit x (66% x 5261)=$17152.96 divided out amongst the winners.

Returning our bets to us: $35 x (66% x 5261)=$121520.00

Paying the host: minimum of 5% of the pot but I'm guessing she made 10, but let's just say 5: $9206.75

DietBet's cut BEFORE paying overhead, even though I was stingy with the amount of money paid to the host and it's probably much less: $36259.25

In all likelihood, their expenses were probably something like $20k to host this game between labor, office space, insurance, more labor (app development, IT, payroll, accounting, referees, probably some temps this time of year because so many people are playing,) utility bills for their office, office supplies, taxes, the list goes on but ultimately running a business is horrifically expensive.

Potential "profit" which I'm guessing is actually less than this: $16259.25

Percentage of the profit: 8.8%, which is higher than my original estimate but still a very fair number.

Conclusion: Even if DietBet forfeited the potential profit from the dummy numbers I made up above (I don't know what their books look like so there's no way to say for sure) we would have made an additional...$5. There were a lot of players in this game and a lot of winners. Profits will only be high for the winners when there are a lot of losers, and since everyone is on the resolution bandwagon in January this is not that month.

There is no way their expenses are that high. They make a tremendous amount of these bets. Good for them. Great idea. I won't be playing anymore though.

Kasha Y.

@Cass if you look at WayBetter's website...they're based in New York City. They're a medium sized company running a business in one of the most expensive metropolitan areas in the world (and if you look at their careers page...they have openings in executive level positions that easily pay $250k plus per year and they have several open...which means they likely have others on payroll already.) Their expenses are likely absolutely that high, even with the number of games that they run. Like I said, can't see their books so I don't know for sure but given the facts...this is a pretty good round guesstimate. Your opinions are welcome, but I personally far more enjoy the positivity and everyone pointing out how much we gained from this game!

What did people expect from this DietBet. Yes, the winnings are usually more, but from my experience it’s 12-20$ not hundreds. This is a business. They are entitled to take their cut. Read the rules before you join something, don’t bitch about them after the fact because you only won $4 or didn’t understand how the optional membership weigh ins tied into the final. This isn’t about the money. It’s about the support. Kristine gave out hundreds of dollars worth of prizes, she didn’t have to -I’ve been in many games with no prizes. Be grateful you lost weight and didn’t get suckered into some marketing gimmick like teas/wraps/shakes. Be grateful that you had this community to support your journey. If you’re here for the money, this is the wrong place for you.

I am just surprised that there r so many haters out there when everything had been very transparent upfront. They even wrote in FAQs how much you can expect to win. I think some people were just banging on this to be their free rent for the month or winning the lottery.

If people are going to use MONEY as their motivation to lose weight..........................it ain't gonna last long. The win should be that you LEARNED a better way to lose weight from advice on the game.
