  • So rejoined dietbet after while recovering from an ankle break and then went too hard playing football with friends, fell, and just got out of the hospital for wrist surgery ??????????? besides limiting activity because OUCH I need to avoid sweating to avoid infection so this battle is going to be fought in the kitchen at least for the next 2 months.

I’m sorry to hear you are injured again. I am a true believer that food is the key to weight loss. You cannot out exercise a bad diet. Now, don’t get me wrong exercise is important- but more so for your body’s heath, but for weight loss it’s all about the food. You could do some stretching exercises while you are recovering to be ready for when you can add some light exercise- you could also go for some light no sweat walks.

Good morning, today I woke up 6 pounds heavier and I think I’m having some kind of allergic reaction. I gained 6 pounds overnight. I worry I won’t be able to meet my goal by the end of this month… will I have to forfeit my whole challenge and all the money I paid??

You're still in this. I struggle with autoimmune & allergies so with flare ups and inflammation my weight fluctuates too. I add fiber supplements & try to avoid salts when it's bloating. Also check with doctor on anti-inflammatory and anti histamines.

I am so nervous about this round. I am on a 5 dose course of heavy prednisone/steriods and they are known for causing bloating/high water retention. I don’t think I’m going to make weight or at least look 20 pounds over in my pictures 😭

You got this, just don’t give up even if you miss a round! And like Courtney said, focus on drinking more water than usual and stay on track with your nutrition!

Drinking more water than usual a few days before weigh in is actually one thing boxers do to make weights before fights. It's called water loading, but going crazy with water/dehydration can be super dangerous & unhealthy so I don't recommend. Also meds & hormones love to do their own thing so this might not help BUT I do like to do a water ritual a few days before weigh in, and honestly it probably helps my cortisol & self acceptance more than loosing water weight because it helps me stay present & focus on something other than the scale & food. A few days before I double my water intake which means I'm peeing more and I use that extra me time in the bathroom to tell myself "ahh my body is releasing what is not serving me" yess this is a bit woo woo but it's like a tiny meditation/visualization. The day before the weigh in, I go back to my normal water or a bit less. Than I stop all liquids & foods at 8pm, go to bed, & weigh when I wake up. I am dehydrated when I wake up, but it's similar to when you fast for a blood test and I make sure to hydrate right after.

This diet bet is so fun this time and I am really sticking to it at the moment. The fun part is always to recalculate your losses into kg.

It's been almost 2 month and I had a major setback but kept going afterwards. I eat less, I drink less alcohol. And I am feeling much better overall beside my infection, which got worse again but I have 3 kids in daycare so not really suprising.

Michele, oh yes. And in Germany the daycare has a list of things just going around. That is the worst part. It's like, which lottery do we win this week. Cold, stomach bug or somthing more interesting: scarlet fever; hand foot muth disease... :see_no_evil:

EDIT: thanks everyone for your support and positive energy! I am feeling emotionally better and with the RICE method the pain comes and goes. My appt is Wednesday, but I’m over here working nutrition like woah for the round’s goal! Eek :-/

Well I got bad news today, and made an appt to see orthopedist on Wednesday. Please send positive energy that it’s *just* a bone island and not something more serious like some kind of bone cancer! :-/
Upping my nutrition game, as exercise needs to come to a screeching halt.

I’m feeling frustrated. It’s been 12 days since I lost any weight. I could not be eating any less than I am. I try to eat low carb and low calorie as that usually works for me. I have at least a 500 calorie deficit from my diet alone each day. Yet nothing is happening. I’m not exercising much, maybe twice a week, so I know I could be doing that more. But I’m on my feet all day every day and feel like my diet should be enough to see semi-consistent change. What am I doing wrong???

I know the common belief is in = out, but less calories and more exercise isn't always the answer because with hormones and stress our bodies freak out and then hold onto the weight. Totally agree with folks on changing things up maybe spend a few days consciously eating well but instead focus on & counting grams of protein (>100g) or fiber (>25g).

  • Sorry you are going through that. That sounds so frustrating! I’ve seen things online from fitness experts who talk about how to get through a weight plateau. You should look into something called metabolic confusion where you use a zigzag calorie plan to get your body out of starvation mode. I’ll attach screenshots with the general plan if you are interested. ❤

  • It was a good week. I got my diet back under control and I extended my elliptical streak to 28 consecutive days with at least 90 minutes completed (I’m closing in on my goal of 30 consecutive days). I also reached my round 2 weight but I still need to drop a couple of pounds to win my 2nd round of kickstarters.

    The exercise is getting easier. My heartrate isn’t as high as it was a month ago when I exercised and I don’t burn as many calories. I plan on mixing in some other exercises soon to keep my body guessing but for the next few days I’m going to keep with my elliptical buddy.

    Whatever exercise you guys are doing please keep it up!

Megan thank you for the kind words! I definitely couldn’t spend that much time on an elliptical if I wasn’t watching TV. I belong to Anytime Fitness and they tend to put TVs on each piece of cardio equipment. It definitely makes it easier to pass time that way.

My ultimate goal is to get back to running though. To protect my joints I don’t want to run on a treadmill until I’m <250lbs and I don’t want to run outside until I’m <220lbs. When I run outdoors I just listen to the world. I miss it so much and I only have myself to blame for gaining this weight since 2019.
