The continued adventures of breaking my addiction to sugar, as outlined on the first blog post.

So far, things are going pretty well.  I've made it through four days of limiting the number of carbs and sugars I've been including in my diet.  I actually got around to reading the book the outline came from.  I originally only had a magazine article.  It's based on Anne Alexander's The Sugar Smart Diet.  It seems to have a lot of good information on how to counter cravings, and mindfulness exercises, which is awesome.

It turns out I've been a little stricter than I needed to be.  (See image on left).  Apparently, dairy sugars are fine to eat during days 6-11, as are whole, unprocessed grains, like brown rice and quinoa.  Also, I can't do math, because I thought I only had to do this for five days, but it's really six, so I won't be getting my apple until Monday.

That said, I'm happy with how it's going.  I haven't had withdrawl symptoms, and I'm not jonesing for some sweets.  Not even missing the fruit at the moment.  In fact, I was able to look into the box of donuts someone brought into work and not even feel the slightest bit of temptation for one.  I'll count that as a win.

So, despite my initial misconception, I'm going to stick with what I first outlined, and keep to my low carbs until Monday. Then, it is three pieces of fruit per day, which I am pleased about.  I'll also add milk and yogurt back in on Monday, but I'll hold off on the carbs until day 19.

Here's a recap of todays foods:

Breakfast was my trusty cheddar cheese omlette and sauteed spinach.

I had a snack of veggies, Laughing Cow Cheese and natural almond butter in the morning.

Lunch was leftover dijon chicken with the sauce scraped off and green beans.

Dinner was mesquite steak with green beans, and a garden salad with blue cheese dressing.  It was delicious.

Macronutrient breakdown is as follows:

Total Calories - 1300

Fat - 58%

Protein - 28%

Carbs - 14%

Today was a total of 20 grams of sugar.

New for today, I thought I would include the weight loss since Monday.  I haven't had he chance to do much exercise this week beyond short walks with the dogs because I've gone back to school, so between school, work and my 45 minute commute, I haven't found a rhythm yet, so I'll assume all weightloss is from the plan.

I weighed 171 lbs on Monday.  Today I am at 167.8.  3.2lbs.  Not too bad.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.  I have the joy of going into work both days.  I'll try to get a run in first thing in the morning.
