Knowing I needed a source of daily inspiration on the go, I downloaded an app called "My Diet Coach". It's a simple app that will pop up inspirational quotes or reminders at the time you specify. (It also rewards female players by allowing us to dress up an avatar. Seriously. You "win" virtual clothes and accessories by doing healthful things that you can then use on a virtual representation of yourself. Sigh. That is a topic for another day.) One of the reminders I have set is to lay out my workout clothes for the next day.
This may seem like a simple and pretty insignificant act, but it makes all the difference for me. I've found my brain will take any excuse (and I mean ANY) to not work out when I come home tired from work and just want to eat Cheetos while watching Netflix on the couch.
Even having to assemble a workout outfit makes it harder.
If I have the clothes laid out beforehand however, then I am far more likely to go ahead with my planned workout. I also find that pulling out the clothes I'll need the night before cements my commitment and makes me excited about the next day's exercise. Somehow I don't want to be wasting time pulling out clothes if I'm not going to wear them. Shrug.
This sounds weirder as I'm writing it out since grabbing workout clothing takes less than a minute, but there it is. Whatever works.
I've got my workout clothes sitting on top of my dresser for tonight, by the way, because the app reminded me. Sometimes you have to outthink your brain.
