12 weeks. That's the same length as the initial HMR program phase. It's about breaking habits.That program shows that the longer you stick to the plan, the better the results, and better a person has at long term success. (And it's also the long term participation).

I sympathize. It's hard. I was always called out because I'd snack on veggies, since my wife was on the healthy solutions plan.

Prior to this, I've done weight loss sprints of six-eight weeks. I've never had success in keeping it off. I found a google spreadsheet from 7 years ago, down down down, stopped logging. My yearly yo-yo. Started with 12 weeks HMR plan, and I've kept it off. Not easy. Not always down.

It's a decision you have make to get healthy as a lifestyle, even if it means a few complaints from the kids... put out cut veggies and fruit, and it does magically disappear if there is not other stuff around.
