sometimes I wonder home much we should share on this website about ourselves, about home much we struggle with our weight about how much it is a inner battle with ourselves-- like are we pushing each other enough or we just here for ourselves -- well here is my little push of why this weight is personal to me and I hope it motivates you to work harder or maybe not to give up on this. I thought I would share about one of the conditions I suffer with due being overweight -- I have sleep apnea- it is hidden killer that alot of us suffer from-- I have to wear a machine at night to make so that I do not have seizure at night due my weight causing me to stop breathing, I am constantly tired, I need basically about 10hrs of good sleep to focus in a day but I usually only get about 6-8 and live off caffine that make my sleep problems worse in nature. I sometimes think about what it would be like to go through a day without being constantly tired or being able to sleep without a mask-- I am telling this not for you to feel sorry for me - I am telling you this because I want you to realize much our weight controls our lives and that we need to focus it and take our lives back-- I am not doing this bet for the money-- I am doing this so that I can have my life back !!!! -- Now it is your turn if you want to share- let other know how your weight stopping you from living or maybe what you hope to gain from this dietbet-- may we push each other past this goal and into next month

Sign in to CommentHi Travis. I used to weight 330 lbs and had pretty bad sleep apnea. Been using a CPAP for years and after starting Dietbet 2 years ago and really focusing again with DB last year in August, I'm down to 240 lbs today. Looking to get under 200 as the ultimate goal but my current goal is to get to 220 by the end of March. Anyway, once I got under 250, I've noticed that I can take naps and actually start to sleep better WITHOUT THE CPAP! I still use it once or twice a week just to make sure I get a really good sleep because I still wake up in the middle of the night a couple of times but not the 10-20x previously when I was extremely overweight. So, I guess I'm saying that if I can do it and slowly ween myself from the CPAP, you can too. It will take some time, effort, and willpower but it can be done.
MAN!! I have never used all of the space to make a comment.. and still didn't get to say all I wanted to say..
Best of luck to you Travis!
Best of luck to you Travis!
Thanks for sharing Travis. I am a nurse and I have seen many patients with sleep apnea. There is one in particular that sticks out in my mind and I think of him often. I am lucky enough not to suffer from sleep apnea. YET!
I have made excuses for myself for a long time. My parents are both overweight, my sister is as well. We are a German family from a long way back. We eat. We eat when happy, when sad, when mad, when the sun is up or the moon is shining.
I have four kids. We all want to be here for our kids. But I want more than that. My middle daughter is very sensitive. Of late she has been making comments about needing to excercise and get rid of her fat belly. (their step-mother has given them daily exercises that they are supposed to be doing.. we won't go there right now..)
So my reason for wanting to be healthy while ultimately losing weight is for my kids. For them to see that being healthy is the most important thing you can do for yourself.

Thanks for sharing part of your story, Travis. My weight has kept me from doing the one activity I really enjoy, which is dancing. When I weighed much less, I could dance for 3-4 hours at a time, 3-4 days a week. At my highest weight, after a very short time, the bottoms of my feet hurt, my knees ached, and I could barely walk! I've lost about 50 pounds since June and have about 50 more to lose to get to a comfortable weight. I'm trying to take back my life, too, Travis. I've found a lot of encouragement here and some good pushes when I needed them! And you're right - we can do this!
Beautiful children there Travis. And, you are right, getting rid of that weight might get rid of that machine and.........................in a kazillion ways, you WILL feel better!
