
Yes you have read that title correct!! Foodie-aholic!!
What can I say I love food!! I love the smell of it. I love feel of it. I love the sound of it. I love the taste of it!! mmmmm the taste!! grilled chicken, spicy taco, cold watermelon, creamy, icy ice cream. ooooo silky smooth, sinfully rich chocolate!! I dont think there is a food I dont like, well there is but that is mouth feel. I can honestly say I dont like the way liver feels in my mouth or a fatty piece of meat!!
My mom has told me time and again that she could tell when I had something in my mouth that was unpleasent to me. I always made a face!! So this is where my blog will take us. To mouth feel of food!! I believe that if I am going to eat I should be able to enjoy it. As you can see by the picture this is my sinful food of the day, well yesterdays sinful food. Homemade red velvet black forest cake! It was part of my Canada Day celebration and let me tell you, IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!! there was a layer of cherry pie filling with a vanilla pudding top to that with vanilla buttercream frosting, you get the picture!! moist, dense, sweet and smooth, is there a better mouth feel?! mmmm I think not!! unless it is rich, dense, moist, dark chocolate brownie/cake!!
I love anything rich, smooth, silky and sensous!! the richer the better, denser the better. When I eat something like that I am in heaven and only need a couple of bites to satisfy the taste or mouth feel. I have decided that if my food tastes great then I only need a little bit. If I can enjoy those first two to three bites then I am satisfied. That is my approach to dessert. Now the confession, last night the cake did me in!! I had two, pieces that is!!! It was really good and I did enjoy it but it was late in the evening when I ate it and my will power had gone to bed. So there is a timing issue here as well. It doesnt matter how good your food tastes if you are tired or it is late and you are a little weak you will eat!! and it will be more than you need!!
As a food-aholic I know I can stumble easily so I need to be on guard at all times. I also have to remember just because I stumble doesnt mean I have to give up completly so today I am back on track and wont look passed my next meal. There is always a plan in place and there is always a next step.
Things to remember: we must eat to survive but that doesnt mean we cant enjoy what we put into our mouths.
we must honor our bodies with the good, healthy choices which in the right frame of mind can be just as good as the unhealthy choices we make.
we need to eat mindfully, a meal should be a holistic adventure. What does it feel like? what does it taste like? does it bring back memories (good or bad)?
A question to ask yourself is: Am I eating to eat or am I eating to be healthy? If it is to be healthy, enjoy it, feel the texture on your tongue, against the roof of your mouth. Is it sweet? spicy? salty? how does it feel as you swallow? is it warm as it goes down?
Ok that is more than one question but you get the picture. We need to enjoy our food if we are going to fuel our bodies correctly. so now I am curious, What is your "sinful" food? What is that gets you drooling and cant wait to dig in?
