I recently decided to trim down my Facebook a lot. I had been following a lot of science type blogs, and vegan sites, and some fun Star Trek stuff. I mean, George Takei was the reigning king of the social media for quite some time, but even his posts in recent months were lacking in cleverness. What was really awful though isn’t the direct posts from any of these pages… it was the comments! So much anger! So much hate! I could have been a post about tomatoes and would have quickly dissolved into some uproar about sociology, racism, parenting and disease! There would be lots of name calling and accusations.  The vegan pages had too much woo, the science pages had too much snark, the Star Trek pages had too much irritation (well, only one did). It was actually affecting my mood, and NOT in a good way!  So I’ve stopped following them! Getting the negativity out of my life, even from such a remote source as the computer, has been nearly transformative! I have felt 100 times better since I did that earlier this week.

I do still have my Facebook account and probably won’t get rid of it . I like to use it to keep in touch with some old friends. I have a couple happy groups I like to interact with about good food and good books. I also follow a couple fitness pages, like Shaun T.  He is just a big ball of glowing positivity and the comments people leave on his page are full of kindness and enthusiasm and positivity too. It’s a completely different world than the rest of Facebook.

I feel like that is what is going on here. We are all here to improve ourselves and tearing each other down sure as heck won’t help that, besides, we are too busy being the best we can be! It’s made a great environment. I have a fair amount of weight I would like to lose, so I’m going to be here for the next 6 months or so, but I’m nearly sad that I won’t get to keep it forever!  Here’s hoping they get the maintenance games set up.
