Sometimes even if we are counting calories we have to look at the foods we are eating. I started assessing my macros. Ideally for my height, weight etc I need to consume 40% protein, 30% fat and 30% carbs. if you go to this link you should be able to work yours out. I then put in the My Fitness Pal App everything i eat (scanning the packaging bar codes is good as it puts in all nutrition info) and then I can figure out and start assessing what i am having too much of. I hope this info helps you. Don't give up, it can just take time figuring out what your body needs.

The problem is that I do all that stuff. I have a fitbit and it calculates how many calories I can have vs. my activity, etc. and I stay within that and have a calorie deficit everyday and I'm still fat!

Hi Daphne .. well done. Although I've not started yet myself, I thought I would share something that I learned recently. I discovered that by getting 8hrs sleep before I need to get up .. it was much easier to get out of bed and tackle whatever I had planned. For example .. I would aim to be getting up at 7AM in order to get to the swimming pool for 8AM. But I kept failing because I would stay up watching TV until between 11:30PM and 12:30AM. I brought my go to bed routine back to 10:30PM (putting me asleep for 11PM) .. and this allowed me easily get up for 7AM. May not work for everyone, but thought it might help you. And different people need different sleep amounts :-)

Thank you everyone for the support. It does help to know that I'm not alone, and that I'm not the only person who isn't perfect :) Still planning to walk home this evening and I've avoided the temptation of coffee cake in the office. One the hardest parts of working in an office is sitting at your desk most of the day, and the ever present assortment of treats and snacks.
