You can do it, Jackie. Just tell yourself that no one is actually giving you a second glance, they are all focused on their own workouts. And you deserve to be on the treadmill as much as anybody in that gym, so step on and get that 30 minutes done!

No need to fear being stared at if you are new to a treadmill. In my experience most people go about their business. They have other things going on in their mind, like listening to music, watching TV, or being in deep thought rather than targeting the rookie on the treadmill. You can always start at a very slow speed and then gradually speed it up if you are unsure of how balanced you would be by running on a moving carpet. It will feel a bit odd at first, but after that you will get used to it in no time.

You can do it Jackie..take it one day at at time. Whatever you do just keep moving!

That first race is going to be so much fun, I envy you, Jackie! Until then, follow your plan and don't overtrain. And don't go run 3 miles the day before the race because you are worried you can't do the distance - I did that before my first race and was so sore on race day I barely finished! So similar to kwogni's comment :-)

Walking and jogging seem to be the only thing that works for me too.... because once I get bored, I'm already far enough from home that I might as well keep going. I just haven't been able to stick with other workout programs. What to do indeed.

It's funny what we think about isn't it? Remember you are no good for others unless you are good to yourself! Thanks for sharing!
