How do you verify the weight loss?

For all official weigh-ins, you'll be prompted to submit your official starting weight. Our standard weigh-in process involves you submitting 2 photos: one of you standing on a scale in lightweight clothing (no shoes, hats, belts, watches, coats, or outerwear), and another of the scale’s readout with your weigh-in word written on a piece of paper.

What you'll need

  • A scale (preferably digital)
  • A digital camera or smartphone
  • A full-length mirror or someone to take your photo

Does this actually work?

Out of 1,044,117 DietBetters, 86.79% have lost weight during their challenges. Combined, they've lost 17,218,187 lbs and won $104,266,887. In other words...yes.

All results shown on DietBet are from actual users. Individual results may vary.

interesting... I did 3 kickstarters at once. This one had the largest buy-in, but the smallest payout of $7.51 over the initial $35 buy-in. I wonder if that's common. Perhaps more research is needed.

It would mean that more people won the bet, which is the goal. You win more when less people reach their goal unfortunately. How DietBet works is that the pot it split by all those who reach their goal, if everyone reached their goal then you would win what you bet, that's what the guarantee is. That you will not lose money if you reach your goal. However for the money paid by those who do not reach there goal it is split amongst the winners after administrative costs (which is the same for all bets). So if you won a higher payout than more people lost their bet and lost their money. Does that make sense?

Oh yes it makes sense! I just wonder if people are more likely to take this bet more serious because they had to pay more. Therefore they were more successful. I'm really just thinking out loud. The goal is always to lose weight (for me ). But the roi difference was interesting.

Just curious, do we know the winners for the food and workout photos for 2/13 and 2/14? Congrats everyone. I am proud of everyone :)

I had to take s business trip and swelled up from water retention so missed my goal. I'm so disappointed because I hit it prior to my trip but without the secret word I couldn't weigh in. Oh well, gotta try again.

With no room to spare, I think I made it. And I may have a new addiction! This is a fantastic way to hold me accountable as well as meet new people in this journey to health. Looking forward to the next one!

Although I did not reach my goal weight, just being part of this group was invaluable and worth wayyy more than the 30 dollars I may have "lost". I'm sad I can't continue to log on everyday to read everyone's stories and inspirational messages. I loved the accountability aspect. Congratulations to everyone who won!

wow! this time was so hard! I have been working out guts & buts but it has been so hard to stay away from the bad food and find the time to do some cardio. Good think is that I feel better and I am really convinced I can go back to my pre baby weight, It is not going to be easy but little by little I can loose another 13 lbs.

My final weigh-in has been approved, and I've made the goal. With a nice 0.8 lb cushion. Phew! This has been a lot of fun. Congratulations to all the other winners.
