Round Goals

The object of the game is to maintain your initial weight for 12 months, with a +2% allowance to allow for daily fluctuations (you can also lose up to 4%). To make that easier, we break the Maintainer into 12 rounds, each with its own pot, giving you regular accountability and incentives. That means if you stay within -4% to +2% of your weight all year, you can cash out 12 times!

Miss a goal for a round? Don’t worry—you can still win the next round and the Grand Prize at the end of Round 12. Half the bets are spread across the first 11 rounds, and the winners of Round 12 split the other half. The goal for each round is the same, though you MUST be between -4% and +5% of your initial weight by the end of Round 11 to be eligible to win the final pot. This is to prevent unsafe sprints at the end.

Rounds 1-10: between -4% and +2%

Round 11: between -4% and +2% to win; within -4% and +5% to qualify for Round 12 (MANDATORY)

Round 12: between -4% and +2% (MANDATORY)

How do we verify your weight?

For all official weigh-ins, you'll be prompted to submit your official starting weight. Our standard weigh-in process involves you submitting 2 photos: one of you standing on a scale in lightweight clothing (no shoes, hats, belts, watches, coats, or outerwear), and another of the scale’s readout with your weigh-in word written on a piece of paper.

What you'll need

  • A scale (preferably digital)
  • A digital camera or smartphone
  • A full-length mirror or someone to take your photo

The Dietbet support team keeps asking for feedback for future maintenance games. Please let me know if there’s more that can be added. I used bullet points but they don’t show up below. I’m hoping this will help speed up the process of getting another game going.

Here’s my feedback about a Maintenance game:
Monthly accountability is just the right amount of time for regular weigh-ins. I am not interested in the Membership feature of weekly weigh-ins. That is more rigorous than I’m interested in at this time.
It’s good to receive a return on my game investment but it’s not the most important factor. I’d be more than willing to pay more to continue to be able to have the external accountability.
The opportunity to touch base with the group has been helpful and I suspect that many in the game have been engaged although not actively commenting all of the time. I am definitely one of them. That doesn’t mean that the group is not important. The group really has been helpful and supportive; one that I’ll miss.
I’m not particularly interested in the contests or other challenges; I’m just too busy with my life to go there. Some probably find them helpful and I occasionally read what people are up to but not most of the time.
The most important factor of these maintenance games is that I have to be accountable at least once a month. I have been successful at keeping my weight within range despite that I’ve had major joint replacement surgeries in the past 2 years, disrupting my exercise and activity routines, for months at a time, as well as slowing my metabolism down. These 2 events would have totally devastated my efforts to maintain my weight but that monthly weigh-in loomed large and I didn’t want to feel like a failure. If I only had to answer to myself, I would have rationalized it and be much heavier at this point.
So, that’s my feedback. I really hope it’s helpful and that you will start a game sooner rather than never.
