Too bad, hate when that happens! At least now you know. Protect that new scale, leaving things on it is the worst thing you can do to it. Just a thought: you could get two new scales, so every once in a while you can compare the readings and check, if one is drifting off. It happened to me once and it took weeks until I figured out that the readings were all wrong. So frustrating!! Now I am pretty paranoid about scales, making sure nothing sits on them and that the ground is perfectly solid and even where I place them. Just put it behind you and be proud of that new scale. Not much else you can do. Oh, and maybe also take measurements, so you have another measure of success when you lose inches in one place and build a little muscle in another. Best of luck with the new scale!!

Weight gain (or loss) isn't instantaneous. Just because you went over yesterday doesn't mean the scale will be up today. Remeber, 3500 calories is equal to one pound of body fat. Even if you binged yesterday and ate an extra 3500 calories your body wouldn't convert it to fat that quickly. From my personal experience, when I have a bad nutrition day the scale generally reflects that 2 or 3 days after the fact.
