  • Week #3 Activity Challenge
    Let’s get moving! In addition to staying diligent with your eating goals, this week I challenge you to increase your activity! If you’re sedentary, pick a couple nights this week to go for a walk after dinner or take a beginner workout class on YouTube, if you’re very active find a way to really push yourself! Maybe turn it up a notch by adding something new you don’t normally do!

    Track your activities and report back next Sunday! This challenge will run from 5/10-5/16. I will post the thread that you check-in on Sunday 5/16 and the winner will be announced Monday.

    For my sedentary friends, aim for 2 to 3 days of activity.

    For my active friends aim for 5 or 6!

I'm struggling. I hurt my arm at the gym on Saturday. I thought I was just extra sore due to going a little overboard with arm machines. Well it progressively got worse and more painful until I could barely move it and the pain is just insane. So I spent my early morning hours at urgent care. Turns out, I tore my tricep muscle. They think it's tricep tendinitis at this point and I'm off work for at least a week now and have to rest it and am on pain meds. No lifting, typing (I'm a court clerk lol), putting any pressure, etc. Basically if it causes any pain, don't do it. 😒 The best case scenario, I can start working out with light weights in two weeks. Not going to think about the other scenarios right now because I desperately need this to not hinder my fitness journey. The dr referred me to a sports medicine specialist, as a back up, just in case. Hoping for complete healing and no need for further medical intervention.
So for now I'll be walking and if I can figure out the elliptical without using my arms, I'm doing that or may be making more trips to the gym to use the bike or something. I joined a cardio challenge that I'm not quitting! Lol If anybody has any other ideas on how I can get some good cardio in without using my arm, please share!

Sounds really painful! Walking is likely enough to keep you in the habit of exercise and depending on how long you have, enough to chip away at a few calories. If you're worried about the intensity but not able or ready to jog, then walk hills to get your heart rate up. I like to listen to podcasts when I do "boring" workouts

Thank you all! I really appreciate the kind words. Yes, I'm following the Dr's orders. :) It's super hard to not use your dominant arm though, I will say. Lol

Vegan Dad - that's a great idea!! I think I will do that, especially since I'm off work for a week. I really need to increase my veggie intake and I love broccoli. Lol

Lani - great idea on the hills! I didn't even think about that.

My arm is less swollen today and the pain has significantly decreased so I'm feeling hopeful. And no that's not the pain meds talking, I only had to take 1/2 of one today. lol Will be taking it easy and getting lots of rest this week. Plus, I'm enjoying the extra cuddles with my son. :)

  • I'm in a real bad head space right now....

    This is my longest stall EVER! Two solid weeks, gained two pounds over that time period. It's centering over and under that magical "300" mark I hit, and I want to get away from that number so bad! I can't tell you how discouraging it is when it pops up after I've been under for a day or two. If this was a stall at any other weight, it would be much easier than the psychological death grip the magic "300" has over me.

    I know, all the things I've been telling you when you go through stalls are going through my head now also, but it's not helping. I squeaked out my Kickstarter today by .1 pounds. It's a good win, but two weeks ago I was 2.1 pounds below. I'm really struggling with the negative thoughts.

    My body is not handling this well - I'm stopped up, which means I'm not getting enough water. So....my pledge for the rest of this week is to drink six 16.9 oz. bottles of water per day in addition to my one Diet Pepsi (still maintaining that pledge) and my juice with my meds in the morning. I'll start there and see how I do with that amount. I'm hoping that will "whoosh" away this stall and get me back into a good place. I know where I am right now is not my final weight, but that sure is zinging through my head.....

    I guess maybe I should look at this as a two-week practice period for maintenance, when I finally get there, which is not happening anytime soon....

    Tell me something funny that will make me smile, family!

I am feeling discouraged today. I am so sick of thinking about and making healthy food. I am completely lost without eggs. I don’t think I am going to stay off them long term unless I notice a big reaction when I reintroduce them. So I said forget it today, and I am just doing a liquid diet for the day. I know that’s not sustainable but I just need the scale to move and like I said I am sick of food! I’m kind of mad that this is NEVER going to be easy for me. I’ll never get to just eat what I want if I want to feel good and keep weight off. I’m just moody today, dang it!

The early days of an elimination diet are tough. What foods have you eliminated? How long until you start to reintroduce things? Sometimes it can help to mentally list all the things you *can* have to change the way you think about your food plan from a positive perspective

No recipe really! I just do everything to taste

Atlantic Salmon: season with kosher salt and lemon to taste. Cook 3-5 minutes in each side depending on thickness

Greek yogurt: mix in ranch seasoning to taste

Pineapple avocado salsa: 1 can pineapple chunks (fresh so much better), cube up 1 avocado, dice 1/2 red onion and 1 jalapeño, salt, lime juice, and coriander to taste.

Strawberry salsa: first time I used this recipe, but I just do it to taste, and I use coriander because I can’t stand cilantro bunches floating around my fridge https://cookieandkate.com/strawberry-salsa-recipe/

    Our desire to do things "perfectly" can have such an opposite effect. When we don't live up to those expectations, it can really send us into a tailspin can't it?

    This is your reminder that it's not all or nothing. Real progress will only come when you let go of "perfect" and start thinking of a trajectory that is slowly going in the direction of your goals. You got this!!

    Who can relate to this? Has anyone been successful in changing their mindset?

I think this is a big issue for most of us. We believe that if we're not "perfect" then we aren't good enough at all. It's a challenge to allow ourselves to be "good enough" and understand that being perfect is simply not attainable for anyone. Perfection does not exist: we are, after all, human beings.

I had the week of most peoples nightmares. This past Thursday a young girl at my school opened fire and shot 3 people. My classroom is in the same hall but way at the other end so when they announced a lockdown we just assumed it was a drill. Once we heard sirens we realized ot could be something more. About an hour later we were escorted from our classroom by many police officers holding their guns and guarding us. Luckily no one died, but the trauma will live on especially for my young students. Trying to find healthy ways to cope but would love any prayers and good thoughts as we return to school on Tuesday.

  • I crushed a huge goal this week, something I have never done. On Thursday, I entered one-derland! To be truthful, I never really thought I would ever achieve this goal, but I also never thought I'd lose 100+ pounds (and still losing). Believe me, it is worth the sweat and tears you put into it. Keep going!!
