You’re going out with friends to a Mexican restaurant. You don’t want to wreck the hard work and good choices you’ve made, but you’re also not wanting a salad. What do you order?

  • I LOVE new starts (a new day, a new week, a new month and especially A NEW YEAR)!

The cost of procrastination is the life you could have lived - WOW this one hit me, hard. I have always said, every single time I wanted to get my health in order, I wanted to stop living on the sidelines of my OWN life. But, I think this will be my new and improved self pushing mantra to help me keep going. The future is SO uncertain, 2020 (and the last three years) showed many of us that in abundance. So, I need to stop procrastinating with my wellness and live. <3

So! I signed up for dietbet and WW (for logging and most importantly the meetings).

A bit about me, I'm Shannon 34 and living in SE WI. I'm married to my HS sweetheart and we've been together 17 years! I'm a momma to 3 triplet kittens. And I'm a nightshift ER nurse.

My story is similar to most with weight issues. I had really really bad trauma growing up and I coped with food. I started gaining at about 6, tried every fad diet out there and developed a binge eating disorder along the way (thanks Mom & Dad! 😂).

After years of therapy I'm doing much better and last year I was able to lose 30 pounds! I did well with keeping it off for awhile and then I got lax. But, I know I can do it again and with the added support from all of you and my hubby who has a couple pounds to lose also eating better!

As an incentive to get moving more, I signed up at my favorite gym. It's got a walking track, pool, hot tub, sauna and MOST importantly to me, classes. I push myself way harder when I have a group class! I got in a walk this AM to get myself started.

If you have taken the time to read this, you rock. Post any tips that have helped you succeed or any IG accounts you like to follow!

Thank you for the motivating testimony! I relate to fresh starts just like you, we are in this together

Also a night ED RN, quick question: do you work out before/after your first and last shifts? (If you work three in a row.)

I can never sleep before the first, but I do try and take it easy. Im thinking that could be a yoga day.
Obvi there’s no time the second or third day for anything but sleep, but that’s fine.
Then I’m so exhausted after the third, especially when trying to flip my schedule back, but I feel like if I don’t work out I’m losing another day.

Still not feeling well, but I managed to stretch for a little bit and sit on the sofa to get 7500 steps in on my little pedal/elliptical/stepper thing. Probably going to be eating protein shakes, canned soup, and kale for a few days until I feel up to going to the store. Not the best but could be worse? Maybe?

I’d call all of that a win, especially when feeling sick!

  • Forgot to post yesterday but did day 3 of SQUATOBER. Today is a rest day on the squat calendar. And my body wants it to be a total rest day but I want to do 5k training. Do I listen to my mind or my body?

I vote listen to body! It could help to go for a walk?

I fluctuate between feeling confident and optimistic to feeling scared to change. The phrase “I’ve done this before!” Can feel encouraging knowing that my body works for me when I feed it what it needs and move more - at the same time it’s that fear of failing again and if I gained it all back last time how will this time be different?! I truly want to have more and more of my actions be a vote for the person I want to be and I know I’m on that journey. My long term goal is to be an iron woman (many smaller goals along the way, like I’m training to race walk a marathon now). I’m just having a hard time visualizing myself as an athlete, fit and healthy. Which is why I joined this group for inspiration, motivation, and accountability. Thank you for letting me share and put my fears down so that I can face them head on! I can do hard things!

I can totally relate and understand exactly where you're coming from
Unlike learning a completely new skill, the burden of past failure can cast a lot of doubt on our self belief. We're dealing with having to upgrade our mindsets

Here's a thought process I'm practicing now... Both Doubt and Confidence do not really have any bearing on my ability to execute TODAY. And how I show up TODAY is all that matters.
The feeling can ride with me but it cannot drive

Em

You ARE an athlete at any size! YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!! Now you need to repeat this daily. A marathon is HARD! I did one 4 years ago and am trying to get back to 5k after injury and surgery. I totally understand the way the mind undermines our progress and goals. Keep prioritizing your health and fitness journey!!

I decided to take a break from cooking and treated myself to 5 days of healthful, ready made meals from Snap Kitchen. I’m hoping that this helps to keep me on track!
